Metalworking and machinery

Presses, welding lines and compressed air compressors create a sharp peak at shift start, which is the pattern that suits peak shaving most directly. Owner-managed sites under cost pressure and without storage yet are the typical first client.

Energy-intensive processes

Electroplating, heat treatment and foundries run furnaces and rectifiers on high, predictable batch cycles. Every company that is not an SME has the energy-audit duty, independent of consumption, and EnEfG and grid-fee rules add further obligations above the consumption thresholds.

Heating phases at machine start-up, and parallel starts after a shift break, set the peak in injection moulding and extrusion, not the running process itself.

Refrigeration compressors, cleaning cycles and continuous processing lines make both the capacity charge and supply security relevant on the same site, more than in a typical industrial load profile.

Cold stores draw a steady base load with compressor peaks, and electric trucks add a growing charging load at the depot, usually reaching the grid connection limit before the parking limit.

Why it matters

Every sector has its own load pattern.

A metalworking shop peaks at shift start, while a foundry runs its furnace on a predictable batch cycle. A plastics site peaks when its machines start up rather than while the process runs. A dairy needs a flatter peak and a supply that cannot break, and a cold store adds depot charging to a load that already has its own compressor peaks.
