Storage for metalworking and machinery
Presses, welding lines and compressors create short, sharp peaks at shift start. That pattern suits peak shaving.

Shift start sets the peak, and the peak sets the capacity charge.
Presses, welding lines and compressed air compressors all start close together at the beginning of a shift, and that moment produces the sharpest load spike of the day. Hall heating adds a slower, steadier draw on top of it. Typical first clients here are owner-managed companies under cost pressure. They have no storage yet and pay the full capacity charge (Leistungspreis) on a peak that lasts only minutes. Peak shaving, in which a battery covers that short peak, suits this pattern well. A load-profile analysis shows how sharp the peak actually is and whether a battery sized against it lowers the capacity charge enough to be worth it.

Typical load pattern
Presses, welding lines and compressed air start together and add up to one sharp peak at shift start.

Most metalworking and machinery sites have no storage yet and no load-profile analysis, so they pay the capacity charge on a peak that nobody has measured properly. Hall heating and compressed air add a base load underneath the shift-start spike, and this makes the pattern predictable enough to size a battery against.
- Sharp shift-start peaks from presses and welding lines starting together
- Compressed air compressors add a steady load on top of the spike
- Hall heating contributes a slower, more constant draw
- Owner-managed sites under cost pressure, typically without storage in place
Where to start
A load-profile analysis shows how sharp the shift-start peak is before anyone sizes a system.

Two use cases apply directly here: peak shaving against the shift-start spike, and self-consumption of solar power where a roof is available for PV next to the battery. Both start from the same twelve months of quarter-hour data.
- Peak shaving against the shift-start spike
- Self-consumption where roof area is available
- Sized from the same twelve months of load data used for the capacity charge
Use cases in this sector
Two use cases cover most metalworking and machinery sites.
Role and fee
The same independence rules and fee structure apply to every project in every sector.
One role per project
On every project we take one of two roles, never both. As independent advisor we are paid a fee, earn nothing on hardware and take no commission from manufacturers or installers. As turnkey partner we deliver the system through vetted installation partners under one contract. If we wrote the specification or evaluate the bids, we do not bid.
Fee
Load-profile analysis, feasibility studies, quote reviews and acceptance tests are offered at a fixed price agreed on the scope. Owner's engineering is billed by day rate or as a fixed fee. Turnkey delivery is a fixed-price contract.
